Wow its been so long..............

Its been three years here in Manhattan and time has really flown.

I finally today  have managed to sit down and start organizing things I have put off for months. During this time I  came across this blog which I have managed to neglect for so long.

Between the children, work and a hectic lifestyle we have adapted here in New York it seems my blog was almost forgotten. Until today .

I am going to gather some photos and some topics together and sit down and diligently write. Very soon!

Happy Holidays and I will be back( sounding very much like Arnold there).

Being a mother in the New York

It’s been quite a while since I have thought about newborns, maternity leave and breastfeeding. I think personally I have intentionally pushed it all in the “completed” file in my memory.
I can whole heartily say that I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to go down that road again. However lately I have been thinking about how lucky I was to have both my girls in Australia.

My first impression when I first arrived here to New York about breastfeeding was it was something you did in private. Unlike myself who openly breastfed at Centennial Park after doing a run or sitting in a Cafe at Bondi having a coffee. Breast feeding or nursing as they call it here is not as accepted in public as it is back home. I do feel that here women would like to see changes however at the moment it’s something you do discreetly as to not “offend”.
I am no mother earth actually far from it however I do believe fundamentally mothers should have the choice to birth and feed their babies in any manner they feel is best for them.

It is a very hot topic here and one that every mother feel passionately about.

I also am so sad at the fact that generally women here have to return to work after just 6 weeks post birth. My daughters Pre-K assistant had her second baby and had to be back in the classroom six weeks later. I felt awful as I know I could not have left my babies at 6 weeks. Here she is taking care of my child while her newborn is being taken care of by someone else.
Its really given me an admiration of mothers here in the USA.
I am also so grateful that as a mother I have always had the choice to either work or not.

In the press here in Manhattan

I know its been a while since I have been here. Life has definitely  taken a turn for busy. You could say I am well and truly a New Yorker!

The update is that a few weeks back we renewed our visas for another 2 years. Time has flown and really this does feel like home now.I just cannot imagine living anywhere else these days.

As for my work I have also really decided to dive into my career! Its amazing to have a job that involves meeting and exploring so much of what Manhattan has to offer.

I wanted to share an article that was done by a reporter here in Manhattan for DNAinfo on two of my wonderful families and yours truly. Its a real honor for me to have this story done. I feel very blessed to be in the city I love so much and to be making my mark here also!!

Happy New Year

Wow its been so long since I have had the time to come in and blog.  We just had another Holiday season full of happiness with the kids. This really is our home now.

We are renewing our visas for another two years too.
I am working a lot however thankfully from home. I love the flexibility  however I do sometimes wonder what actually leaving the house would be like.

I really need to make more time to come here but its seems we too have become true New Yorkers. Always busy and never having time to slow down!
