A new start..........

Well all I have some big news!!!
I have started my own little business here in Manhattan.

http://www.tanyalindin.cruiseshipcenters.com/

Please feel free to have a look and even better book something! Or please pass on my website to anyone you know who may be interested.

After searching around and doing a lot of research I felt this was the next step in my Career. I feel comfortable going back into the Travel Industry and symbolically its 10 years from when Ansett Collapsed.
I am in the process of doing all my accreditation so I am pretty busy doing that and all my other Mum stuff.
Isabel is already planning which Disney cruise she wants to go on.

I love the fact I can work the hours I want and that I am doing something I love doing and that is helping people plan that dream vacation.

Wish me luck................

6 Months living in New York.

Well the 12th of May marks  6 months since the day I arrived to live this mid-life adventure. I have to admit it has flown by so quickly. How do I feel you all may ask? Well as excited as the day I arrived. The only difference is that I cannot imagine living anywhere else at this stage in my life. I know New York is not for everyone but for me its what I want at the moment. I think here if you are lucky to live in the right areas life is great. This city is not cheap and I think that people go without things to be able to live here.
I have realized after searching and trying to find part-time work that after childcare it’s really not worth it. I don’t want to have a Nanny for the girls and if I did work that would be the alternative. I have decided to start a new project which will be hush hush till it’s all up and running......................

Other news is that the girls are now starting to get a few birthday invitations and coincidentally all in Central Park. The weather is getting much better and it’s such an oasis for us and the kids.
Hugo is doing great at work and was even given a promotion after being there for not long. I am very proud of him as he has such high work ethics. It’s great to see an employer acknowledge that!
I have started a little mothers group with some of the “Mom’s” from Annika’s preschool. Those who know me understand I love organizing things and I love the socialization. The kids love the fact I make so many friends so we are never short of things to do here.
My 44th birthday is next week and my wonderful friends Peta and Marco are coming over to play. I am so excited to see them and hang out with them. I am very interested to see what their perceptions are of my very different life here. I am sure I will have lots to tell.

Still looking for work

Well I am still officially job hunting. There is a lot of work however trying to find that balance is the problem. I am looking at maybe becoming a Home based travel Agent which I know would work perfectly. I am looking at the set up. I am not sure what I would specialize in however I do have the experience. I was a travel agent many years ago. I would love to cater for Aussie's coming here to the USA.Will keep you all posted as I will need to get the word out there too!

Today the girls and I walked through a filming shoot. Its was for some new HBO show called "making it big in America".Apparently the filming around here is full on now. Its such a nice part of town the Upper West Side so I understand why. Its very exciting!
Oh and talking about being excited Peta and Marco are coming in a few weeks. Dying to spend time with them so its a bit of a ANSETT reunion here in Manhattan

Osama Bin Laden has left the room......................

There are moments in history that we all remember where and what we were doing when we heard the news. I think two significant and memorable incidents for me are the death of Diana and 9/11.  With Diana’s death I had been  flying for eight hours from Sydney to Shanghai whilst it was all going on and found out as I turned on my TV in my hotel. I was in Shanghai. The other one of course is 9/11. I was in Osaka and has just woken up and turned on the TV. I watched the graphic images of what would change the world forever.
My new memory will be the Death of Bin Laden and especially as I am living here in Manhattan which is where this monster did his most destructive act of evilness.
Last night as Hugo and I were enjoying an episode of “The celebrity Apprentice” on NBC the headline came suddenly on. At first it said the President was going to address the nation about an “incident” that had just happen. I thought it was about Gaddafi however we soon were told it was the death of Bin Laden. I was surprised! My first thought was of “caution” as I felt that this meant retaliation. My next thought was the overwhelming sadness of all the lives lost on 9/11. Being here in New York I feel I have a special connection with this city and its people. I hope this is going to give the survivors and those who lost relatives and friends some sort of closure or sense of justice.
I went to bed with very much mixed emotions and wondering how New York and the rest of the USA would react.
The next morning the images I saw on TV where probably what I expected. Thousands had gone to the “ground zero” area. All carrying American flags and all so full of pride for this amazing nation. I am always overwhelmed by the patriotism the Americans have and so they should. Today was a day that finally in their eyes justice was done and they are so proud of those that completed the mission.

I asked Isabel as we were walking home from school what was said about Bin Laden at school today. I have spoke to her in a very sensitive way about 9/11 a while ago. She did need to know and especially living here in New York. I told her this morning before school about his death but it seemed to go over her head.  I wanted to prepare her for what I knew would be discussed by the children .She told me that the kids had asked her teacher why he had organized the attack on the World Trade Center. Her teacher Alanna responded that it was a very difficult question to answer. I think she handled it very well. Apparently it’s all the kids have spoken about at school today. In fact it’s all that everyone here in New York has spoken about today. God Bless America ........The land of the free and the home of the brave.
